Emily Forbes
Emily Forbes is the pseudonym of two Australian sisters writing together. They share a love of reading and have always wanted to write fiction. When they were both at home with young families, they thought "no time like the present," then found it was more a case of "no time" (so the washing and ironing were demoted down the list of priorities. They can recommend this move to anyone.)
Between them they have four young children, two husbands (one each), an enormous golden retriever plus three guinea pigs (Sarah, Jessica and Parker). To top it off, they're fulfilling their shared dream not only of writing, but being published, one of the best aspects of which is the wonderful people they've met purely through their writing.
The Medical Romance line is their first choice in the romance genre, both to read and write. They love the "dose of reality" that medical scenes bring to each story. Their backgrounds also have a medical bent. The older sister (but not by much) is a physiotherapist with a degree in business, the younger sister (much younger) is a lawyer and now partway through a master's degree in clinical psychology, at present deferred to focus on writing (and parenting).
Supportive husbands have made things easier but there's always a comedian. Namely, the one husband whose favorite saying at the moment is, "I used to be married to a physiotherapist and I never got any physio, now I'm married to a romance novelist "
They're often asked how they manage to write together and say that they can't imagine cowriting with anyone else. Having grown-up together and having similar values means they're usually on the same wavelength about their stories and characters. And writing together keeps them motivated. Another side benefit is that chatting at the kitchen table over a cup of tea no longer counts as idle gossip; it's a planning session. And going to the movies is not just entertainment, it's research (it's a hard life).
Having their first manuscript, The Consultant's Temptation, published was a huge thrill and they were equally excited by selling their subsequent books. Their third Medical Romance title, Outback Doctor in Danger was released in Jan/ Feb 2005 (UK/ Aust). Emergency at Pelican Beach will be released in November 2005.
Now working on their fifth book, also a Medical Romance title, they look forward to bringing many more characters to life they have scores of stories just waiting to be told.
